Welcome to the World Kinley!

Kinley Judith Ann Riddle

1/19/13 - 4:57pm - 6lbs 3oz - 18 3/4in.

On Friday night (18th) Erica and I had gone to dinner with Mark, Val and Sandy for Sandy's birthday then hung out at their house for a couple hours talking about all kinds of stuff, including when Kinley would get here. Erica and I got home right around 10pm and changed into our pajamas. I had barely changed and thought I felt something wet. By the time I got to the bathroom there was more and I knew it was my water. So I yelled to Erica to get her clothes back on, we need to get to the hospital. We got to the hospital and was admitted around 11pm after the nurse determined that my water did break and I was dilated to 5cm. Before we could even get into our room Mark, Val, Lacy, Wren and Sandy were there. The next hours were just a waiting game. I didn't feel any contractions until 3am and decided to get an epidural because they were going to start pitocin at 4am and I wanted to make sure that the epidural was in before the pitocin cranked up the contractions and I ran out of time. Well, come to find out I really didn't need to worry about that because the pitocin didn't start until 11am. I ended up stalling at 6cm for quite a while and when the nurse and Dr. Weaver checkd me they found that my water hadn't fully broken so Dr. Weaver broke my water around 3:30pm. The nurse came back to check me around 4:40 I think and wanted me to do some practice pushes because I was at 9.5cm, her head was close and I was almost ready to push. I had a little cold so I coughed then got my legs in position and the nurse said "don't push, her head is right here, I'm going to call Dr. Weaver." Within minutes the whole room was set up for Kinley's debut. Dr. Weaver walked in the door at 4:52pm and 5 minutes and 1 push later Kinley was here! She even grabbed the nurses's arm on her way to my chest! Dr. Weaver and all the nurses were blown away by how fast things went. They even told me not to tell anyone because people would be jealous. I got to watch everything and as soon as they put her on my chest, I thought look at this amazing, beautiful, perfect little girl that just came into this world. I don't remember much of what happened after that because I couldn't stop looking at her. I know Erica got to cut the cord and I saw all the weight checks and everything but I couldn't really tell you any details because I was so happy and obsessed with this little beauty. Erica and I are so lucky to have had things work out so well. We only had to try 3 times before getting pregnant (normal fertile couples try 6-12mo), I had a great pregnancy with no problems then we get a great labor that did progress slow but birth was fast and easy. There's absolutely nothing I would change about the past year. I can't wait to see how Kinley grows and changes and how that makes Erica and I grow and change.

She's On Her Way!

One of the first things out of Dr. Weaver's mouth while doing my exam this morning was "Well I wasn't expecting that!" Normally that's not something you want to hear but then she said that Kinley's head is down nice and low, I'm 3cm dilated and 50% effaced! Looks like she's going to be here earlier than we expected! Dr. Weaver said I might not even make it to my next appointment on the 15th.

Hey Mom, you might want to get a bag packed and ready to go!
